A Big Thank You

On Sunday we were delighted to receive A Big Thank You certificate from the Lutterworth & Villages Foodbank.

In 2016, with stories in the news on a daily basis of families having to choose between heating and eating, our Church felt we could no longer ignore the needs of the poorer members of our local community. When we were approached by the local foodbank at Countesthorpe who were looking for additional collecting points as well as people to train to refer families and to serve at the Foodbank it was an answer to our prayers.

We agreed to become a collecting point and now have a large box at the back of the Church which is delivered to the foodbank on a monthly basis when one of our members assists them in their work.

The Big Thank You was in recognition of our support during 2017 when Blaby Congregational Church donated 124kg of food!

We are continuing to support the foodbank this year and we hope to surpass last years total with the donations from our members and friends. We have also recently sent £60.00 to the foodbank for them to use to buy essential supplies when they have a shortage of particular items.

Lutterworth & Villages Foodbank is run in partnership with local organisations and churches, facilitated by St. Mary's Church, Lutterworth. Charity Number 1134507, Registered in England & Wales. We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

Foodbank clients don't just receive an emergency food parcel when they bring their voucher to a foodbank centre. The voucher is redeemed for three days’ emergency food but they also meet a friendly face - someone who cares. Volunteers meet clients over a warm drink or free hot meal and are able to signpost people to agencies able to solve the longer-term problem.
