Holiday Club 2024
What a wonderful week we had for the Holiday Club this year and how lovely the weather was for us. We had 14 children registered and met every day between 5th -9th August.
Our theme was 'Going for Gold' and we looked at various Olympic events and linked those to the teaching of the day.
On Monday we looked at Beach Volleyball and at the story of Jesus calling His Disciples on the beach. We created sand art pictures and a 'follow me' mobile.
On Tuesday we learned about Blind Football and read the story of blind Bartimaeus. We made blindfolds and baked gingerbread biscuit Olympians and medals (which we painted silver or gold on Thursday). Henry the Skipper also joined us and we enjoyed a skipping session.
On Wednesday we did not look at a story as this was our Olympic games day. Francesca joined us to organise some activities at Stokes School Field, the day was not complete of course without a picnic and was very much enjoyed by all.
On Thursday we explored all things Rowing! We read the story of Jesus calming the storm and walking on the water. We made Origami boats and raced them in the paddling pool. We ventured over to Stokes School for playtime but it started to rain so we came back and played games of Volleyball, Blind Football and Rowing on the seats instead.
On Friday it was time to learn about Field Athletics and our story, The Parable of the Sower, where we looked at different types of soil. Our activities included decorating a plant pot and filling it with compost and wildflowers to then be taken home and tended to grow.
Hayley came in to lead some dancing and the children really got into the storytelling of dancing. To finish off a wonderful week, we gathered all of our crafts together and walked to Bouskell Park to meet with the parents and people from the local Churches. I explained the stories and activities to the parents and following our singing of the theme song, we all enjoyed a picnic before packing up and heading home.
Many thanks to Susan, Rachel and Ellie for their help during the week, as well as to Val who helped with the baking and to Carol Lacey who joined us on Thursday and Friday.
We pray that the children and their parents remember the Bible passages and the activities we shared with them.
